Think caveman!
I am expecting in 2 weeks and we were thinking to get straight out in the van!
The way I see it is we got here through ice ages and livin in caves...how much luxury is your van compared to that!

I reckon a 1 month old would be a lot easier than an older kid. As others have said it's the temperature you need to think about (I seem to remember that new borns can't control their body temperature properly until they are a month old). At least he or she isn't going to be kept awake by noise or anything at that age, doesn't take up much room and will stay where you put them down.
We took our two year old (then 14 months old) to France in the van last summer and it was really hard work as he was just walking, kept crawling under the van and refused to sleep at night because he could hear older kids playing around the campsite. We had a good time in the end but frankly Centreparks would have been less stressful.
Good luck

i personally wouldnt do it
we havent with our 3 month old, not to worried about the temperature in the night as its quite warm in our bus, its more the evenings are the problem......and the waking at 5 o clock screaming fits!!

we just did our first trip with our 6 month old last night. It wasn't a great success to be honest, she couldn't settle, it was all strange for her and her usual time to go to sleep is 7pm but we finally got her to sleep at about 11.30pm. It was very cold in the van which did have something to do with it, also its quite hard to work out where to put her to sleep. Tried in the pip up roof, way too cold and light, then on the floor, no room for us. Ended up making a nest for her by rooming the swing out table and slotting it down the side of the R&R bed to make a small crib.

wots up with the baby sleeping in the bed with its ma and then pa sleepin up top ?
surely its about getting away as a family not about beds ?
I've slept up top many a time , cos Katy couldnt settle cos of the noise (wind and fellow campers) and the cold , i know Gaz has slept up-top due to Bec's sleeping down with ma ....
Also remember babies don't like it to hot ....
Stick with it cos its worth it .. just look at Jeds site

we went with our 7 month old freddie on friday night- a nice campsite near medbourne in leicestershire. he slept well until 4am then woke up cold so came into bed with us. glad of the heater in the morning- soon had the van toasty. i think 1 month is probably a bit young- but good luck to you. would recommend staying close to home so you can always head home if things aren't going well or the little one gets ill.
happy camping

at 6.2 you should fit in the top with ease ( i'm only 3'6 and used to fit into our reimo poptop)
get a fan heater and put it in the drivers foot well ,, make sure that there nowt that can fall on it or get a ebber cos if owt blocks the out or in-put then it shuts down
, just remember that if the van is comfortable at say set on two , turn it down a wee bit ( 1 1/2) and you all should say nice and warm .. another tip , crack open at least one of the cab windows , keeps the air nice and moist

stick with it mate after a couple of times you tend to fuss less and the baby will pick up on it and relax more. wait till she starts walking![]()

I think you are right, she seemed to be sleeping and everytime the misses checked on her she seemed to wake up!
T'Onion, the oil filled rad works a treat, just was paranoid about the Zig so unhooked the leccy.
Deffo going to keep going with it, will be much easier with the awning up too as it gives so much more room. Was going to camp near to Vanwest in a couple of weeks, make a weekend away, but I will have only just gotten back from YaYa land on the Friday so will be coming for the day only.
Want to fit in another camping trip before we have our week away in Cornwall mid May time.

There was a couple with a baby (3 months ish?) near us at Bus Types that had the emergency site ambulance around on Sunday morning and the Mum and infant were taken off somewhere.
The baby looked a bit flushed but hopefully was ok in the end. There was no rush or panic so it couldn't have been that bad but I could understand parents being a bit nervous about taking very young ones away. We were also near the awning fire, hope it wasn't us jinxing the place.
Having said that the sister in law took her 6 week old to Cornwall last year for a week in May and had a great time.

Two answers to this question:
If you put your baby in bed with you (we use 2 duvets, 1 to sleep on, 1 over us), your baby will be perfectly warm and happy. But you may not be up for co sleeping. We have done it with both of ours, one now 4, the other 15 months. If you don't like this idea I would worry about the cold with one so young.
But more importantly than that, almost, is is your wife really up for it. If the baby is only 4 weeks old it's likely that she is still totally knackered most of the time. Camping can be rough anyway without the worry of a new born.
Sorry to pour on cold water, just the experienced FEMALE perspective!!
Lots of time to camp later and babies LOVE campervans.
Good luck. Tracey.
