Even the best fuel injection pumps whine a bit, the rubber bobbins are supposed to isolate the noise but if the fuel hoses are old and hard then they will allow the noise to travel back to the tank, which being a pancake design then acts like a big loudspeaker.
A new fuel filter would be a good start, if the pump is trying to pull fuel through 30+ years of fuel tank rust its going to struggle!

Looks like the filter could be making contact with the bodywork and transmitting noise.

Ok, so to reply to individual reply’s click the blue quotation marks on the post you want to reply to but it matters not , we get what you are saying
Your engine number denotes a 2.1 engine, rather than a 1.9 .
Yes change the fuel filter , and you can pin point the noise by putting a screwdriver on the pump and on your ear and using it as a sounding stick .

I will get the filter changed, address the pipes if needed and make sure the noise is minimised as much as possible.
Funny point about the engine number, so I got the DJ one from beneath the oil breather tube (as directly clearly) but noticed my V5 has a different one (DG) ....hmmm should I be concerned?

Re: Excessively noisy fuel pump
That just means a previous owner has done the popular upgrade to the better 2.1
All wbx engines are interchangeable ,externally physically the same (with the exception of the DF 1.9 which has smaller inlet ports in the heads)
Just update your V5 if you feel the need

Re: Excessively noisy fuel pump
In my experience, that is easier said than done.
One department will say how easy it is.
And then see how keen your local DVLA office are to turn you away.
I tried this on my 1994 Cavalier in 2012 after upgrading from 1.8 spi to 2.0 mpi.
I ended up with the V5C retaining the wrong engine number, but I declare the correct engine type to the insurance.

Re: Excessively noisy fuel pump
I simply changed the details on the v5 and sent it off with a covering letter saying it had had to have a replacement engine due to catastrophic failure . This was a few years ago , they didnt even ask for pictures , just sent back a new V5.
However, I haven’t even bothered to change it on the v5 with this van i have now , its a DJ engine and engine number is DG on the v5.
