I dont think this has been botched .

pic 1 shows the end of the rod and cable attached that fits to the heater controls ( the flap is removed from rod currently ).


pic 2 shows the rod passing through the case.

The flap control wire is connected to the fan speed control knob ( see pic ) , the flap is operated from the o ( flap open ) to the fan blade picture , ( flap closed )
