The 'Ultimate engineering' conversion that I have on mine has an ABS ring fitted to the gearbox end cv joint which sends pulse to the  orange box, this gives complete and seamless speed regulated variable assistance, cannot fault it in any way :ok

Or is the best option to get our rack properly refurbished, and if so who would people recommend to approach for this?

I would suggest that refurbishing an original part with good seals etc will always be better than any aftermarket copy.

Regardless of what the blurb says on the adverts and packaging - Copies rarely come close to the quality and durability of a refurbished original part.

That goes for clutch and brake parts too.

In short - refurb by a company that cares for it's customer's vehicles would be the best plan.

Maybe one day I might get it finished

Or is the best option to get our rack properly refurbished, and if so who would people recommend to approach for this?

Some friends bought the Mapco (my guess all the others are from the same chinese? factory) when it was on sale at some online stores. They said the quality is OK, it works fine.
But nowadays they are out of stock everywhere - some specialized shops have the JPGroup but twice the price.
