My thinking is wooden dowels ( broom sticks?) painted black and some black thick fabric with the dowels sown in a bit like a wind break but dowels closer together, then some c channel runners on the sides, boot is not square as you can see from pic above so C channels will need to be packed out to be parallel.

OK,
The OEM one does look like mk2 Passat, but as the T25 is much wider it will not fit.
Have a go with the alternate, a solid wooden one can of course also take weight if needed.

This is a day van so I need to get to it from the inside, a solid cover would make that more difficult.
