Yep
This van had two thermostats too, it was an early DG engine fitted into a late van but rather than buying the right water pump and pipes it was bodged.
It worked though so maybe a genius at work

A little contribution from me.
Lots of water cooled things so far so here's an air cooled CU from my project van. Lots of bits removed, air cleaner etc for ease of access to pour fuel down the throats, engine guard for turning over when checking tappets. Rear engine cover looks very non original. Poor light so the quality isn't great

Hello,
Time to throw in another air-cooled card..
Came out as a 1.6......went back as a 1.8....
Air-cooled bliss........

And the 2.1 dj in the syncro, standard apart from the aftermarket air conditioning.

It's pretty much the same as a factory set up, bracket for the compressor is a bit home made but otherwise much the same.
I've converted the fittings and seals to take 134 refrigerant as the old gas is no longer available.
Between that and the roof tent you don't pass many petrol stations.

I remember those days when mine was a CS.
What is that piece of trickery in the fuel line? Is it one of those so-called fuel conditioners?

Good eyesight there OBG, yes it was on the fuel line when we purchased it and a little Googling suggests I have a device that improves my fuel economy,I beleive you may have called it snake oil in the past. I have had no reason to remove it so until I replace the fuel lines it will stay, I do have a cover for the timing belt now but I am lacking the rubber grommet and spacer for the center mounting bracket so it has remained on the workshop (shed) shelf for a while.

Empty engine bay!
Views of my engine bay - currently empty, in preparation for the installation of a Subaru ej20.
All unnecessary bits removed, cleaned and painted.

Will you be renewing the sound proofing on the bulkhead before the new engine goes in?
