Just as an update, I've still yet to test the current, but gave it a good clean up and noticed that the hole in the top post had the remains of an old fuse in there, you can just see it on picture, imagine that was creating the hot spot. Removed and gave it a quick test and all seems ok, need to give it a full blast over the next week.

Make sure you clean spade terminals on back though
