Hi Katy
The unit is not really the spec for a camper. It is better that nothing at all, but the “Fuse"| ratings are a bit on the high side.
As Dave mentioned you are better with 10A for sockets and 6A for everything else. I found one on E-bay but it's a bit pricy.

If you go for the Screwfix unit make sure the 16A breaker is only used for mains sockets.
You also need to make sure that cable from the breaker to the sockets / your van to the site supply is up for the job.

DiscoDave wrote: why have a 3 way unit? 16 or 10A breaker for your sockets! 6A breaker for lights and another 6A breaker for your fridge.
Willoughby, as can be seen, Dave actually said 16 or 10A for your sockets & 6A for lights/everything else. Dan Wood suggested 15A/5A which is virtually the same.

I certainly don't think your comment about an MK RCD unit being ''better than nothing at all'' is justified. Maybe the 16A mbc is a tad highly rated.
Also it has been stated all the way through this thread that the 16A mcb is for sockets & since hook is always 230v nobody was going to wire up anything other than mains sockets into an an RCD unit.

Hi Bolton Lad
The MK is a great bit of kit if you want to run power to your garage.
In my opinion a 40A RCD is over rated for the majority of vans. And you would be far better with a 25A RCD that conform to BS 4293, BS EN 61008-1 or BS EN 61009-1.
I would also not only just wire sockets to the RCD but all mains operated kit like Zig units an fridges.
I Don't want to step on toes, I an genuinely interested in what other think. I have fitted three RCD consumer units and they have all been 25A 30mA. Here is the circuit diagram used.

Electric Hookup
Hi Kev,
Thanks for posting the wiring diagram, it's really clear & easy to understand.
My camper already has a split charge relay feeding the vehicle/leisure batteries (l/b is actually a vehicle battery), 2 x double strip lights, & a feed to a water pump but no tank fitted (yet!).
I am looking to fit 1 x single & 1 x double switched sockets & maybe 1 x 230v lamp for when on hookup. My fridge is 2-way so no need for 230v power there. I am planning for the time when I will need to power an LCD tv, a DVD player, possibly an aerial booster & a portable battery charger. I may also want to power a 230v kettle & an awning light at certain times.
I am not actually thinking of fitting a Zig unit because most of the stuff I want is there & wired in as original by Auto-Sleeper.
Steve.
