Cheers for the reply, the engines a recond vege engine when I bought ,so its done about 10k. It does,nt burn a drop of oil but judders when pulling away which I thought was a clutch problem but the clutch has never slipped? How much would you expect to pay for the job to be done, was quoted about £500 if I delivered the engine.

My van was just about driveable if I kept stopping to top up, so I managed to drive it to the garage to be done.
He did the job without removing the engine from the van.
It was 16 hours labour plus a 60 quid gasket, which comes in at 460 quid.
I needed a few other bits though, as the exhaust wouldn't come off cleanly, and piston ring broke... So new exhaust section and a few bits and bobs pushed the cost up a bit. Somewhere around 600 in the end I think.
If I'd just taken the engine, then I think the labour costs would have been quite a bit less, as I'd have done all the work getting the exhaust off!

One month later i.e day before yesterday I get a phone call that my van is dripping coolant all over the work car park. It must have droped about 1 litre but I did top up the expansion tank the day before. I now have a dilemer, do I drop the engine and risk the head bolts snapping or do I do I buy a reconed engine and have a massive bill. I want it sorted as its my surf van that I've spent ages sorting and luv it to bits and wont part with it but havent got loads of cash spare, what would you guys do?
Need advise as I've got a kite surfing comp in watergate bay at the end of March and my van has to get me there. Please help.
I'm based near Brighton.

This was the problem which prompted my engine rebuild, slight coolant drip from one head/water jacket seal, thought i'd live with it for a bit, within a month it suddenly p*ssed the lot out on a dual carriageway, heads would not come off without pulling the liners with them [you are extremely lucky if they do] so it is most likely an engine out/ full rebuild job, anything else is a stopgap short term bodge.
i found other probs which were waiting to happen in the end ,like sheared eng mount bolt, shagged mounting rubbers, exhaust air leaks, worn cam etc. etc. so im glad in the end i took it out and did it right, if you want to keep it, do the job properly or go down the recon engine route, just my opinion, hope you get it sorted mate!
