I have a spare here Smosh.

You would need to try it first if interested because it came on a spare cluster I bought to test with hardwiring the blue ribbon.
( It's never been on the van )

PM me if you want.

The speedos (as stock) do tend to be a little optimistic. In addition this inaccuracy tends to vary across the range and some are far worse than others. To get a true reading via a cable is going to be vague at best as its only measuring wheel rotation. In the end, you're better off comparing to sat nav speed indicator and using that as a reference point so you know what speed you're going when you look at the dial. 10mph over at 20mph is way off though.

Beating the speedo is probably the fuel gauge which is vague beyond belief. :D Or perhaps the driver - I'm just as vague these days.

I did have a go at the VW dealer at the first service some 31 years ago but their attitude was 'it's only a van' and 'they are never accurate anyway'. This VW dealership still exists and they sell a large number of cars and very few vans. I got the feeling that they considered they were doing me a great favour selling me a mere van.
I have got used to making sure that I do not exceed '40' on the clock when I am passing a 30mph speed camera! When I go shopping I pass two of those signs that light-up to tell you how fast you are going so I have a constant check. Surprisingly I think that the mileage recorded on the speedo is reasonably correct when particular jouneys have been compared with maps.
Although it has always been a second vehicle in the family over the years it is the one that I still like driving the most.

Thanks Aidan. that explains mine being 10% high. I did wonder. :ok

Just an update; finally sorted this. Drove at 35, our speed limit, and looked at what it read. Pulled it apart twisted it to what it read at 35 and moved the needle to 35. Now it works. It's a bit more out at 50.
