Re: Gearbox oil
Definitely GL4 and I did run this past Aidan at the time but that was early 2014 and views and what is available may have changed.I am more concerned about the "semi-synthetic". Hopefully our gearbox guru will chime in and put me right.

Re: Gearbox oil
In my mgb diff and my T2 and my son's T25 gearboxes we have used the Castrol gear oils. Always GL4 , never GL5.
The Castrol 80W90 EP oil is a good one. I have tried the Castrol Syntrans 75W90 in my noisy T2 gearbox but it didn't quieten down until I put 80W90 in it. Still noisy but less so.
Probably any quality 80W90 GL4 will be fine. Its cheap and like my engine oils (I use Castrol 20W50 in the vans and mgb) I change the oil frequently.

Duncan
hi what you have is fine
Two years ago the Semisynthetic Carlube 75w/90 was the value oil that had replaced the semisynthetic Fuchs Titan I'd been using previously, but this stuff is available at the moment, as I say moving target; a few years ago I couldn't find anyone in the UK who'd state VW501.50, they'd um and arr so I assumed it was nla so went with closest - Fuchs technical support confirmed suitability as did Carlubes. GSF's cheap brand bulk oil now no technical support, it may be fine but no way of knowing

Re: Gearbox oil
I use the same Millers as you have Paul - i change mine every 3 years despite mileage (just had the second one) and the gearbox oil came out nice and clean so was well pleased.

Re: Gearbox oil
Thanks for the clarity Aidan. Still available at £7.00 a L and Comma publish a full spec online.

Re: Gearbox oil
If it's GL4/GL5 then the GL5 bit is compatible with GL4 spec meaning it's Ok for bronze syncro rings.

Re: Gearbox oil
I had synchroniser problems with Total oils so I am using Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 now which is marked GL4+ and VW 505 50.
Maybe my synchronisers are worn out, but the Castrol oil helped.
