Well its wrong, like many things on the internet. After 35 years I've become very familiar with both - as has Bentley and Haynes. Cam followers (oil-filled or solid) follow the cam, tappets are the adjustable part of the valve train, either by a screw adjuster or shims on some engines.

Mind you, the motor trade is an evolving beast. 'Fitters' probably call all of the valve train tappets or even 'clackety things'. Engineers and proper mechanics do not. Not digging, just stating the proper names. :wink:

Even they sometimes need adjustment. Never removed rocker covers in the ten years I've had mine, but keep thinking a check would do no harm.
