Might be worth having a good ol' look over your fuel tank as well Smiffo as it'll be worth replacing this at the same time you do the coolant pipes.
Replacement pipes are next on my list as one was leaking slightly due to corrosion although a new rubber pipe and twin jubilee clips seem to be holding it for the time being. I'm going to change my tank and ancillaries as part of the process.

Evening 300CE.
I did have a little peek at the tank - with one eye half closed at first.
From what limited bits I could see it looked relatively new. Has a coat of silver/grey paint on it that is far less muddied than the surrounding area.
( Although that could just be paint over rust. )
I had heard/read about them rusting and leaking, so was a bit curious.
It was hard to see much of it really - which might be a good thing - one more set-back and there would have been one more grown man reduced to tears in the world today..!!

- if you can take some pics of the process when you change the pipes as will be good to see how it all goes together.

Just sayin' if it's not broke don't fix it.
Preventative maintenance is great but you have to know where to draw the line each year and then get on enjoying driving it.
leave the less crusty bits for later.

No problem.
I'm no expert mind you - I will just be `winging it` as I go.
( And asking Itchy for advice

So far I have removed the old ones. New steel ones should be here tomorrow from BW.
The only advice I can give so far is to take a saw and cut the old ones half way along - far easier to wiggle them out in shorter sections - and make sure you cut any cable ties above the tank.
( Shine a torch in there to see, preferably before you spend an age trying to pull them out, like I did

I had to use a stick with a hacksaw blade attached to it to poke through above the tank to cut them.
Apart from that, unless you are built like Mo Farrah, get some ramps..!!

I will make sure I get some pics for you when I do the rest and post them here.

Very true.
I think I have spent more time led under Boyd, than inside him..!!
To think this started as a job to go from Solex carb - that is working fine - to a Pierburg carb.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry

At least I know some underlying issues will be resolved for a while now, and not surface when I least expect it.
I have also gained some valuable confidence tokens - which is never a bad thing.

Damn - that must be what my pipes were cable tied to above the tank.

I am going to have another look over the weekend, hopefully there is something else to strap them to nearer the radiator, without the need to take the tank out.
Forget looking forward to camping - I'm going to need a 4 week break in Goa to see me over this....
A couple of Vodkas might be a good substitute though..!!

How is your van coming along?

Hopefully I'll have engine and gear box in over the next couple of weekends and finnish off the linkage.
Finger's crossed it'll fire up as well, will keep you posted.
Dropping the tank isn't that difficult, I did it a few weekends ago and was surprised how strait forward it is.

I try not to think about it - it's the stuff that nightmares are made of..!!

Anyway, I made use of the downtime waiting for these parts today.
Fitted new gas struts to the rear boot so it doesn't keep closing on my back, then fitted the grommet around the side door handle ( works a treat, no more wobbles. )
Then I pulled in new fuel lines front to back both sides, and threaded through my DG specific throttle cable - in prep for the Pierburg....
Remind me to never talk projects with you again Itchy.

Tomorrow I pull some new moves Limbo style under the van, flush the radiator, and get the new steel pipes in.
Yoga eh - pffffff - who needs it when you have a T25 to work under...??

Don't blame me, I suggest you could change to the correct carb and you rebuild the entire van before getting around to it

I consul myself by repeating daily that `it could be worse, I could be paying someone to do it..!!`
In all honesty, I quite enjoy it ( more so if it hadn't been raining and so cold lately ) and I know I have said it, but your pointers have been a massive help.
After this is all finished, and I let my back heal, I am going to look at the hydraulic brake and clutch lines

I'm a sucker for punishment.
