thanks for replies. is changing the slave cylinder a bit of a job, i am a novice but i need to learn,
i would imagine the repair kit is an easier less expensive fix than trying to change slave and other other pipe i can see

Try this vid Dave.

Looks more fiddly than anything else, especially if you don't have a ramp...
Looks like the bolts that hold it on might be a pain to get off too.

yeah it does look fiddly. i dont have a ramp would have to be the street in middle of january unfortunatley.i would imagine the bolts will be non to clever to come of considering it looks like it has never been touched.
i shouldnt complain
funny i thought i would have had more problems in the last eight months ,,considering the first thing that was pointed out to me was the van should never have passed an m o t,

I would start with the pipe you know leaks first.
Your choice, but no point opening a can of worms if the slave cylinder is OK.
This is a lesson I am currently learning lol.

As long as the bleed nipple opens on it so you can bleed the system, you may find it works just fine as it is.

Another thing to remember..you get what you pay for.
Running these old ladies on a shoestring budget is NOT an option I have found.
If you do have to buy anything for the van that's remotely important buy from a reputable shop that sells quality parts (see "quality parts & suppliers thread")

E-bay is not on the list. :D

Removed and refitted slave cylinder with new bolts and brass nuts last summer, and freed off bleed nipple. Nothing wrong with it but just wanted to make sure I could change it if needs be. Heeded usual good advice on this forum, wire brushed fasteners and soaked with Plusgas for several days beforehand and although tight all came undone. Very rusty like yours but I think they all are…?

Changed our slave cylinder, got one off ebay, b and b components, good price also looked ok to me. In the absence of a pit i found it easier to get at it through the wheelarch, after jacking up and taking the wheel off ( using axle stands). Keep an eye on the fluid in the master cylinder it does the brakes as well so dont want to bleeding them also. Good luck.

hi . i have been spraying the bleed nipple on slave cylinder and the two mounting bolts but so i can release them . i have decided that i am changing the slave cylinder as the bleed nipple is not for shifting and its basically a rusty ball.
the question i have now is the pipe coming from the slave cylinder to the main pipe running to the front
what one is it that you buy , i think is screws into slave cylinder
the ones i have seen , seem to be different. plastic or flexi , with different fittings .
jk campers one is 370mm long but there are no threads on the end

Hi its a 1985 1.9 petrol. The pipes I have looked at on brickwerks and jk are slightly different. With my limited knowledge it looks like you screw pipe into slave then fit other side onto longer pipe . Using the union fitting side.

Early then.
I would buy the slave too, then there will be no more issues, and you'll be able to bleed it

Personally I would have the brickwerks parts, for quality reasons.

That's the slave and the pipes back to the master cylinder. . The pipe down the middle was in a bit of state. Corroded. Had to cut the bolts holding the slave on as they would not budge. Put new slave on and started feeding pipe through. Hopefully all going well should be relatively straight forward to Finnish.
