If anyone wants to talk further about the zinc plating I think it would be best in a new thread to keep this focused on my sluggish engine performance!

Yesterday I fitted s new pump (brickwerks budget) then took her for a spin. The vacuum unit had def made a difference especially when pulling off.
I don't think, in 12 years and two engines, that the van has ever had a serviceable vacuum unit before! Now that I've seen the difference testing is really simple: pull the vacuum unit pipe off, if tick over goes lumpy / changes you know the unit is doing something!
I still have a gap between the spindle and accelerator pump lever but I'll look at that another day. Fast idle adjustment may close the gap.
