I'm interested as to where the green wire goes from the clocks. I have an early van with early fuse box. Were rev counters fitted in the dash on early petrols (no buzzer of Doom)? The wire must go somewhere...

It doesn't wind up at the back thats for sure. Must just fall short somewhere under the dash. What I did today was use three-core 15amp cable and just used one of the cores. Reason being is it means if I ever need to get an extra connection front to back, I've got two spare. Easier to run than a single cable to be honest .Wasn't too much once fastened with cable ties.

Rev counters were mostly luxury items and certainly didn't appear in the first three years of production. With an 85 Caravelle (mine also has the early fusebox by the way) I can kind of understand there being a partial loom. I presume you could ask for a rev counter when purchasing and an upgraded front to back loom would be fitted. Just a guess.

I have an aftermarket rev counter that I fit temporarily in the engine bay for time and tuning. However I would like to have the option to fit it in the front, again only as a temporary fit for diagnosis reasons. If I could pick the green wire up at the front then that's a bonus. Even better if I can find where it terminates rather than cutting the wire or its insulation.

Had a look at Bentley. Apparently it the Rev counter wire goes from the dash multipin to a 4 pin connector (T4b). Also going to this connector is the oil pressure wiring, fuel gauge wiring and (bear in mind this is an American manual) a starter signal to the fuel control unit.
It describes the plug as '4 point, in connector housing'. The plugs T7 and T7a are listed in the same location so I assume it to be the black box in the engine bay.
