The big piece is tin, the smaller rear panel (behind the silencer) is ally.

Re: Photo's wanted 1.6 JX Engine Under Tray Mint Condition
I was told when i purchased it was made in Birmingham by means of re constituted foam off cuts.
i bought some waste left over from an order which was sufficient to do the job. Their website is below and should help you with more info on the product.

mine had one on and i never gave it a second thought until my alternator belt died and by the side of the road it took ages to remove bits to get the power steering belt off to do the alternator one
tray went straight in the bin on return to home, never really noticed any noise difference with or without but the bungalow does soak up a bit of noise

Re: Photo's wanted 1.6 JX Engine Under Tray Mint Condition
hi Jon
these trays are designed for one thing, sound proofing. There is no other reason. JX engines cool via the radiator 3/4 of a mile away in front of the driver. These trays are not essential but they do reduce engine noise and road dirt in the engine bay.
However the tray has a clever air scoop designed in it, to assist in cooling the turbo. so perhaps the tray has more advantages than disadvantages. Access to the engine is more of a task when requiring underneath inspection!
many trays are discarded due to high maintenance of engines and the user perceiving the tray as being "in the way"

How are you getting on with that foam? No sign of heat damage?

Re: Photo's wanted 1.6 JX Engine Under Tray Mint Condition
I have not yet fitted the tray to the van. However I have now installed my new M-TDI AHU engine with just the intercooler to fit. I have had some teething issues fitting the intercooler in finding both space and air flow movement. I have struggled to get both so I have been left to fit a fan to the cooler. I'm now researching an electric 12v fan to assist on the intercooler to run at peak temperature times, switched thermostatically off the water temperature. so watch this space!

Re: Photo's wanted 1.6 JX Engine Under Tray Mint Condition
why would you run the intercooler fan off coolant temp? Presume you are talking about a air/air intercooler? If so have you seen my set up? intercooler at bottom of D pillar, bottom of D pillar cut out and channeled to low pressure area. D pillar and intercooler sealed off from engine bay. thermostatically controlled fan with the stat for it mounted in the inlet pipework. works real well, fan doesn't come on that much at all, only on really steep long hills (fan set at 45degc)
