Not to hijack this thread, but it's on a similar vein & probably too long winded!
I am fortunate / unfortunate enough to own a 1.9L petrol "wasserboxer" T25. A recent purchase at the beginning of June & had no issues on the 400 odd mile journey home to Sunny Scotland from lower than Nottingham. I was generally happy with everything & after 3 weeks of ownership we decided to do the grand tour of the top of Scotland (up the East, across the top & down the West). We set off & got a whole 25 miles, before being followed by a cloud of steam & the temperature gauge pinging of the top of the dial & the red LED flashing. I pulled over & added 2 litres of fine Scottish water, that we'd bought from Tesco & let it cool for an hour. We managed to get to Glencoe from Loch Lomond before the red LED came on again. Thankfully that's where we were intending on staying. So next morning we made it to a local petrol station & found some coolant.
I know the van had coma G12+ in it, but the only stuff they had was coma G38, so 2 litres of this was mixed 50/50 with some more of Tesco's finest, the tank with the Dalek top was filled to just above the MIN line (as detailed in the Haynes manual), as was the reserve tank. Then off we went !
In total we covered 1100 miles in 5 days, with the needle only leaving the white box on the dial, when Mrs wife left the van running for 10 mins while stationary...
Anyway here's the million dollar questions...
Has mixing the x2 types of coolant put more likely hood on the engine having problems & HOW do u cure the gurgling from the radiator / get rid of air from the system ??
(BTW - Mr Haynes tells me the system takes 17.5 litres of fluid !!!)
G13 Coolant for T25?
