Log book states 1970cc, engine number starts CU.

There are 2 lines running from the back of the tank, left & right, are they both feed?

Tried loading pic of engine to send but says invalid.

No the right line is feed the left return, but carburettor CU engines didn't have a return line the tank stub was just capped off, but fuel injected ones did.
It would help with a picture.

None of the pipes are caped, fuel filter on both.

The tank is capped like this so something is awry with your one as the standard carbs don't have a return outlet.

2nd photo is of the left carb 3rd the right & the last is the under side showing both filters.

Let me know if there's anything to suggest why it has the two lines connected.

That is a CU engine but doesn't look like the van was built with a CU engine it has the air filter mountings for a 1600 engine.

Is this the return line in the engine bay and does it just connect to the fuel inlet hose.

Your right mate, further investigation shows that it's caped just before it enters the engine bay.

Funny thing went to get a quote on a clutch kit earlier gave the reg number & for some strange reason it came up has 1600 Diesel.

Got quoted £108 all in, not sure but I think it was LUK,

does that sound about right & is that make any good or do you know a better make?

Hi, can anyone help.

Tried setting timing today, to 28 Degrees BTDC @ 3500RPM but in do in so it's around 15 Degrees @ idle.

I also don't have a smooth idle which makes the timing marks dance about.

Any ideas?

Disconnect both the vac lines from the can and blank them temporarily. Plug the two plugs off the idle stabaliser together. You should be able to set the ignition to about 6-8' BTDC at idle. Increase the revs and see if the ignition advances to about 28' BTDC. This will prove the mechanical advance is working and stop potential vac can / line issues screwing the settings.

If you can get this right then connect the retard vac line first. This should pull the timing back to 6' ATDC. If re-attaching the vac line doesn't do anything check the setting of the throttle plate and / or that the can is still ok by sucking it yourself.

Finally re-connect the advance vac line and see if the timing advances beyond the 30' BTDC at + 3000 RPM.
