Slow cranking on a petrol:
The obvious earths/feeds.
Copper braided wire between solenoid and starter body.
On petrol engines: the oilite bush has worn oval in the bell housing.
Switch feed terminal/wire to solenoid (the male 6.3mm spade connector)in poor condition (the wire can rot internally.

Thanks Martin, going to change the bush on Monday and investigate the wires at the back tomorrow. Will report back.

An update if anyone is interested. Replaced oilite bush, added new spade connector to solenoid and new earth strap from gearbox to chassis and touch wood everything seems to be working grand now fingers crossed.

For what it's worth, is it worth adding a bit of Vaseline to the horn ring whilst the wheel is off? I had one where the the brass had worn down to a sliver which was causing my horn to fail. Just a thought.
