It's odd - I looked at the sticker under the dash (the one that has paint code, chassis number, etc on it and it too has a blank other than it saying CU in a long empty box, then DK at the end. Like it never had one.

To do with it going direct to the Westfalia conversion plant maybe?

Could be it`s had an engine rebuild with a new set of cases, and they come blank for the builder to stamp with the original numbers. Seen this with motorcycle engine cases from Japan in the past.
