Thanks for that Ghost, well unfortunately I did not manage to plant a flag atop Everest :( the receiver blew when I connected everything & tried to use it.
The good news however is that I found a 2 channel one on e-bay for a fiver, I'd been looking for a 433Mhz one & there were no cheap ones.
I'll still have to use it to drive a relay though as the fan will probably draw 12.5A (150w @12v )& it looks like the output max for the ones I saw is 10A
