Re: temp light
If the temp gauge is working correctly ... Is the fuel gauge working correctly too? (they share a 10V signal)
If both of the gauges (temp and fuel) work correctly and the LED isn't flashing when you first turn the ignition key then I would suspect that the circuit that drives the LED (i.e. the internal gubbins in the temp gauge) are at fault.
I'd also guess that the problem may be that a capacitor that is in that circuit may have failed .... but it's a bit involved to fix so try to eliminate other possible faults first.
Do you have a multimeter/voltmeter? Would you be prepared to take the gauge cluster out and do a little bit of testing/fiddling about?

Re: temp light
Yes will try the other test first
Could you explain what to set the multimeter on
And how to test the capacitor please

Re: temp light
Just popping in to say that without specialist gear you cannot test a capacitor. They are only pennies so it is usual, if suspect, to just replace it.

you tested the switch on the header.
the sender works because the gauge works.
carry on.
test the relay socket as said.
then move on to the dash

Yes I will test relay socket first then move on to dash

Re: temp light
while it's out I want you to switch the ignition on and tell me if the light goes out.

Re: temp light
Taken it out and the light is still on
You can only tell the light is dim when it's getting
Dark during the day it's hard to tell , if this helps

Re: temp light
It's becoming likely that the gauge is fu bar.
You can replace the switch in the header, relay module 43 they cost just a few quid.
There is a fix.. it's easier to fit a used gauge though,
But make sure the connections are ok with the tests

Re: temp light
Ok thanks
Fu bar ?
Ok will look for a second hand gauge
Is it important to have the light , the gauge works ok

fu bar = busted
The light is not important no.
As long as you check the coolant level in the header regularly.
it should be full to the brim
just be sure your connections are sound and the big connector in the dash is clean

Well - that's the polite definition !!kevtherev wrote: fu bar = busted

Really???kevtherev wrote: The light is not important no.
I suppose any warning light is not necessary as long as you understand the increased risk and the necessary increased observation of other indicators to compensate.
