Re: 1.9 aaz engine rebuild
The bearings in that link are not suitable for aaz engines. I already looked on brickwerks but can't find the ones I need, I'm going to give them a call on Monday as they are very helpful chaps
Thanks

Thanks

Re: 1.9 aaz engine rebuild
Cheers elvis, I'm going to give them a ring tomorrow.
I'm going to need a new/ used/ second hand piston aswell if anybody has a spare lying around.
Ill post some pics to explain why shortly - they may give you nightmares!!

Or the top!

I didn't get hungry and start to nibble it. It came out like that.
My brothers been winding me up for rebuilding a running engine but I think ive justified it now. This is not far off being - BOOM!! - dad, whys all this smoke in the back of the bus?? - kids, holiday is over!!
Why would this happen?? To much heat, faulty injector, fuel pump timing out?
Answers on a postcard - and don't have nightmares

Is that valve contact marks on the top that you can see in the carbon?
Possibly bit of a valve got stuck in ring bed?
Although two obvious circles, bottom of pic at five o'clock you can make out a very feighnt circular shadow more consistent with where valve would have initially made contact.

Re: 1.9 aaz engine rebuild
Valves are tip top - straight - and lapped into head. Head is now rebuilt with new seals and precups.
On cleaning the other pistons there is no marks/ indentations on crowns, only carbon build up. I'm going to put a 2 notch head gasket on unplaced of the 1 notch that came off, for a bit more clearance.
I thought that excess heat had caused the damage to piston and it is the material from the piston which has filled the gap.

Re: 1.9 aaz engine rebuild
any scoring on the bores? if not then I would go with the heat theory over the foreign body one

Re: 1.9 aaz engine rebuild
I'm no further on yet, due to work. There does look to be some very minor scoring in the bore that the knackered piston came out of.
I've phoned aw engineering and they can do me new kolbenschmidt big end and crankshaft bearings, new piston rings, a used piston and hone out the bores for a decent price. So I might go for that, only trouble is its a 3 and half hour round trip.

Re: 1.9 aaz engine rebuild
I'm still on with this engine but got a bit carried away last week whilst I had hold of a screwdriver.
The van is now a shell and the interior has been skipped.
I've also bought a high top which will be fitted after the snow has been!
Mr hutch I owe you an apology. Brickwerks have sourced everything I need so engine should be almost finished this month - pics to follow.
