Bugger! One of the bolts holding the gauge to the tank snapped off flush when i was fitted it back together easyouts on their way, along with new bolts...

Interesting thread. Couple of questions/queries.
This is an LPG tank stored underneath a Syncro? Where was it fitted - along the sills? And if so, where did you get the bash plate? I've been thinking of LPG'ing the engine on mine for a while, and wanted to put dual tanks underneath, but Gasure aren't too keen. Bash plates could be a solution.
The other question - why white? it's ALWAYS going to look dirty. Silver or grey would have been better?

This is fitted under a syncro, its in the same location they are in the 2WD's so yes, between the sills..
Leisure tank regs are not as strict as the tanks for engine fuel, so they can be fitted closer to the ground. I think though, due to a syncro being a bit higher than a standard van you would be ok. Chuckle-bus-tom has twin tanks under his syncro fitted by, err, campershak i think is the name. could be worth dropping them a message?..
The bashplate for mine, i thought was a homemade job but i have just recently seen another on german ebay that is the same as mine.
As for the colour, well, i like white and mostly they originally came in white. I also think it will look nice with the blue of the van Don't really care about it getting dirty, hose pipe will cure that.

This is the more common float mechanism although there are several types:
In the first picture you can see the float detached from the arm (screws on)
Second picture you can see the float re-attached using some 'gas grade' PTFE tape...
Cured...as Lloydy said...the float basically fills up with liquid gas and so no longer 'floats'. lol...just needs resealing as per...



Re-Sealed...you can clearly see the PTFE tape that has been used to seal the thread.

I am considering doing this - was weighing up a refurb vs either the Gunzl re certification @ 280 euros please carriage or a replacement tank from Gasure for about the same in sterling. How much did it work out for you Lloydy?

It hasn't really cosy anything. I stripped the tank of parts, paid maybe £20 to have it blasted. Bought two cans of hammerite paint, and really that was it. Additional cost to ad to that is a new controls cover

Like Lloydy, I refurbished mine.
It cost about 100 € including blasting, spraying and a new cover.

Hi Lloydy,

Apologies, I know this is an old thread of yours. I've got a few things to take to get sand blasted and thought I might chuck in the metal tinware surround on the gas tank however my tank is nowhere near empty and I just wanted to ask you if those three M10 bolts can be removed without any gas escaping? It looks to me like the recess for those bolts only goes into the welded plate - and it would seem crazy if they went any further, but just thought I'd check before I blow myself up
