Thanks Boxy I will def check all electrical connections.

I keep hearing about vacuum lines? Are these the Braided Lines? They seem to all be going into the airbox :?: I have remove the airbox to get to the carbs so wonder what to do with these lines.

Here is a picture of the bodged engine bay. I have arrowed what i think these vacuum lines are, and what i can only guess is a fuel return?

Also I have a receipt for a Vege engine replacement 30K ago. Whats a Vege? or is it just a refurb original :?: :?: :?:

You should have two connections on the top of your air-box for the vac lines

Vege is just a company that recons engines.

you should really have proper fuel hose clips on those fuel lines.

She lives! Checked all the connections and liberal amounts of Wd 40 were used :) she misses a lot until she gets warm and I think one of the chokes is staying open constantly but she runs!

Had a little spin to test the box and brakes and both work. The brakes ain't great but reckon good enough for a test. Now to book her in and see what she fails on.

Is their a seal that goes below the engine? I can see the road through the engine bay and it's rusty.

Thanks all :) :) :)

yes there is a seal and it's very important that it is in place..as is the tinware.
you should not be able to see the road

well done.. it's all a process of elimination and you did it

Ok so back from my local garage with a quick looksy around completed.... :( :( :(

They asked me back to have a look with her in the air and it isnt the best angle for my beauty. She suffers the metal worm infestation i suspected but its 4 particular places where its and issue!

In front of both wheels, the suspension mounting area is crumbling.

The B Pillar on the Drivers Side is full of rust all the way down to the floor.

The Sliding door sill is rusted along its length and therefore is not providing the strength for the suspension mounting point.

Front wheel arches are shot.

I was hoping for a lot less structural problems and more cosmetic issues... no dice. Looks like a full strip and cut and replace job on most panels on the bloody thing.

All part of the fun I am afraid............she is old and needs some tender loving care. It takes a special (almost nutty) type of person (no offence to fellow owners) to own one of these iconic vans but the reward is priceless. I spent weeks welding mine and started off a novice welder and ended up to be quite a good one. The reward is that after five years when I drive her I have an ear to ear smile and wave at all the other "nutters" (sorry again folks but I think most of us are one offs) Just remember, with an old vehicle given TLC you are part of motoring history.................I await the flack now for using the nut**** word. Bless em all.

don't want to burst your bubble mate, but sounds like its going to cost a lot to put right, is it financially viable?

it might be better if you separate this bodywork stuff and put it all in the bodywork forum under a new title.
