Re: Propex 1600 compact
Cruz, I'd be a bit cautious about having so much stuff in such close proximity to your propex 2000 unit. My 1600 started to melt a pair of wellies I left on top of it

Had it on for hours and it doesn't get hot. The only thing that leans on it is a pair of fold up chairs.
It's only 2/3 years old where a discontinued 1600 is probably a lot older than that. But point noted

I did wonder about that option but was concerned about the weight, especially when exaggerated when say driving on a bumpy field.
Got a pic ?

Getting them and being confident in them is another thing. Spoke to Steve a while back and he said he didn't have enough confidence in them to fit them and would let other people find out the pitfalls firstghost123uk wrote:Cruz wrote: thankfully I got in during the days when you could fit a vertical tank LPG in the musty rear wardrobe

Re: Propex 1600 compact
It's held down tight with a ratchet strap across the luggage rack side bars - doesn't budge even when you try to shove it. Makes no odds to driving/handling that I've noticed - it's only a spare after all.ghost123uk wrote:1664 wrote:My spare wheel is now in a white cover/jacket and strapped to the high top luggage rack

Haven't a picture although I could charge up the camera and pop one on seeing as it's you. I'll post one up later

Re: Propex 1600 compact
That is well good
It actually looks cool doesn't it
And I never have noticed it on your van at meets etc.
And it's a cheaper (and safer) option then the Merc spacesaver.
Thinking I might go that route now
And Ta for the link to the white cover
And sorry for starting sentences with "And"

And I never have noticed it on your van at meets etc. That's because it's not long been up there, although it was at the last Pikey. Can't remember if you were there; too occupied with me cracked ribs.

Re: Propex 1600 compact
A Propex compact 1600 gas consumption is 113grams per hour. So on a 4.5KG Calor bottle that is about 40 hours, or if using a "907" bottle (2.75KG) then you will get around 24 hours.
Remember though those figures are "continuous use". Depending on how cold it is outside, it won't be on all the time, your stat will be turning it on and off as required.
When I used to run mine off a 4.5KG bottle I did find I was careful only to use it when really needed due to running costs, but since I got my garage forecourt re-fillable Safefill bottle I can forget the running costs as they are so low
Oh, and whilst we are quoting statistics, the 1600 uses a little over 2 amps when in use and virtually nothing when on "standby" via the thermostat. If your fan motor is the original one and may have had a lot of use, that current draw will be a bit higher.

Apart from the fact that you will need a seperate tank as the Propex uses lpg vapour whilst your road tank supplies lpg liquid. You can however have a small second tank that is tee'd into the road tank fill line. Your leisure tank will then automatically fill every time that you fill the road tank.

I didn't realize that one was run on liquid and one on vapour, i suppose thinking about it it makes sense. The second tank that is tee'd in will it have to be a special tank to produce vapour instead of liquid at the propex heater or will a normal lpg fuel tank do it?
Thanks

Re: Propex 1600 compact
It is a special tank, fitted under the van and quite expensive. The previously mentioned SafeFill bottle is a cheaper option but it does of course take up space inside the van and it has to be filled separately. They also have a see through bit on the case, so you can tell how much gas you have left. I like it

Re: Propex 1600 compact
Just a thought could, you run a propex by teeing off the underslung that runs the hob and fridge or is that liquid gas as well.
