Feel for you mate, hopefully they will put it right for you. Although, I'd be pushing for a refund plus price you paid for panels, then take the van elsewhere. This bodywork stuff is a minefield, whats acceptable to one isnt for another. It's a a shame you paid them, as you now have very little leverage.

Ok,the problem I have is that they warped the rear corner. Its bent to meet the arch panel. So I guess I need a new rear corner too. Its annoying as I went to the effort of getting proper panels, I didnt expect a bodge job.

they are very hard to straighten  as ni have found to my cost once..trouble is given the state of the other areas that nneeded work, then what will the inner lower rear 1/4 / corner be like, soon end a big job, be thankfully they didnt do the rest of the stuff at the same time as it would be a near scrapper now, sorry that sounded bad, i meant the work involved in making goood such work is harder than the original task

Very poor job that...I never trust anyone to do anything for me anymore without seeing their general standard of work on a good day, and on a bad day...if I then trust them to do something after that I make sure the job is fully discussed beforehand and if possible I do it with them, watch them do it, or visit daily...and if I don't like what I'm seeing I tell them ASAP in a basic manner..!

The guy who did may genuinely think he is a craftsman...that's the trouble, and he may be offended but you need to get him told, he has cost you money, and wasted a panel he most likely views as a scrap panel but as we know panels are a rare expensive commodity now.

A filler expert won't get that right...it's to wobbley..would need to be applied with a number plate for starters.

well if he doesn't at least meet me half way I wont have any trouble naming and shaming, plus I could always print out a 6 meter banner at work "recommending his services" and take it to santa pod!

that seems to be the problem, lots of companys are startin up to restore vw,s,i know of 3 in my area and 2 of them i wouldnt let them wash my van let alone put a spanner to it.ive recently welded in a lower sill on mine and it looks excellent and i did it on my drive, ever considered buying a welder and havin a go yourself ya couldnt do a worse job.

Hi Fazzer, Im beginning to agree with you, I just didn't realise.
I have a welder and have done bits before but I just don't have the time, I commute 4hrs a day and do freelance work at the weekends, I get very little time to play and don't have a garage either! so the idea of taking it to a garage was going to be a luxury for me!!

Bad luck. That is shocking, I would see what they say but don't get your hopes up. You could call trading standards or threaten this if no play ball. I got a 'recon' engine from a well known re - manufacturing company in Essex once, same story, carp dressed up as real work. Live & learn, recommendation and viewing work and more recommendations is king.

That 'repair' is shocking and I feel very sorry for you that you've been taken for an expensive ride.

There are too many 'specialists' out there with their 50 quid mig welder & compressors who are taking peoples hard earnt cash

I hope you at least get your money back but dont scrap the van just yet as it can all be cut off and done properly and at least you know now what a bad job looks like :ok
