Sliding door courtesy light

Understood! I guess the desired operation is for either cab door switch to turn on both the front courtesy lights, so I'll wire it accordingly. I'm not so sure about the rear courtesy lighting though. I guess it's personal preference, and my feeling is the rears should also come on with the fronts, especially if I have a switch that allows me to put them under manual control instead.

More poking around in the recesses of my van this evening then, to find out where that mains flex goes. And then I'll have to sit down with a pad and paper and sketch this circuit out.

The mains flex had me worried - it seemed to go off towards the back of the van, but actually that was just some excess cable and it doubled back and took the direct route down the A pillar to the fuse box. That bit of wiring seems to have been done by someone from the 'poke it in and hope' school of electricians, but it was easy enough to fix.

So now I have two working cab courtesy lights. But each one works independently. I'm reasonably sure I'd like all the courtesy lights (including my extra courtesy lights in the back) to come on whenever any of the doors is opened. That's easy enough to wire - I just have to connect the 'switched earth' wires together ahead of the three door switches. But out of curiosity I'm wondering how the cab courtesy lights work on an unmolested van - do they both come on when either door is opened?

As far as I know on an unmolested van there is only the driver's courtesy light anyway. Mine came on if you opened the passenger door but as I said previously I think Autohomes added the switch in the passenger 'A' pillar. Nope - all three locations are now reasonably accessible as I've dropped the headlining ahead of the pop-top hole again and I'm still working on the ceiling lining in the rear. I think I just need to bridge the switched earths at any convenient point between each light and each door switch. Now's definitely the time to do this if I'm going to.

No, it's just that fitting it involves all the doors
