I have twin diff locks ..... never used the front one. Never needed to!
Buy a Syncro and live with it before you spend your hard earned on stuff you dont need. There is loads of stuff you dont need .... BFG M/T's .... front diff lock .... de coupler ..... bull bars ..... uprated shocks ...... uprated springs ..... poly bushes ..... and thats a start!

Re: Retro fitting a front difflock
But.....it's pretty cool if you have them.
Mine's got twin diff locks so I should be happy.
Unfortunately VW saw fit to leave a dimple between the two knobs. I 'm sure it's a psychological marketing ploy to tell you - 'well done, you are 2/3rds cool'

Re: Retro fitting a front difflock
It certainly wouldn't be a priority to fit one, but I think eventually it would probably happen. And big assed A/T tyres, decoupler, suspension lift.....
As said though, we would live with it as is first.

How far have you gone with investigating why it's not working ?

Re: Retro fitting a front difflock
I've cleaned the one way valve as that was gunked up as was the pipe leading into the vacuum tank but I'm not getting any hiss when I disconnect the pipe to the tank with the engine running. I guess the next thing is to find the actuator and have a poke around with that. Suggestions gratefully received.
The aim is to get it resolved by winter!

Re: Retro fitting a front difflock
i would be looking at all the rubber hoses that link the vacuum pipe, i have had a couple of them fail (split). i put this down to age and that they live under the van and get covered in crap over the past 20 years. a split rubber hose would cause a loss in vacuum, i cant remember the exact size but 2mm silicone pipe rings a bell. it is also worth dismantling the actual diff lock panel and looking at the actual switch, recently i was helping craig and lee as they were having problems with there difflocks not working, it turned out that one of there switches had failed causing a vacuum loss, and the pin that connects to the actuator on the gearbox was sticking.

That bomb hole at Busfest? No diff lock engaged by me...forgot! Amazed it climbed out of that without but it did...just imagine looking down at a difflock panel and having NO knobs at all! now that surely would be enough to send a man off the rails and into massive loserdom...with a capital L!
Re: Retro fitting a front difflock
Craig did pretty well at Devon last year without any diff locks, I think he needs to sort his handbrake before his difflocks though.
