Have ran bugs, bay, and a split through winters all with genuine heat exchangers ( not the repro with less fins in them), all have been toasty then the first drive in the wedge in the winter i had gasure fit a propex. Even with genuine heater boxes and all the fittings, heat was no where near as good as in the others.

Man up you big Shepshed lightweight.....I drive my Aircooled all winter, usually just wearing a thin pair of old pants. I love it...

I blame Gill cause i had to have central heating put in the house before she would marry me now i feel the cold
Hi this is what I use as my heater motor is goosed and can't be bothered to remove the dashboard ( monumental mistake for VW that one ) to replace it,i bought a 1500w skytronics inverter from ebay for around £60 and a 500w pifco 240v heater for about £15.
The inverter is fastened to the bulkhead behind drivers seat and supplied from the starter battery and then the heater having a metre or so of cable can be positioned anywhere when van is running,i have a desk tidy fitted on the dash in place of the ashtray and the heater fits in it perfectly blowing either at the windscreen or turn it 180 and it heats the cab area.
Any further info or pics just message me.
Cheers bob
Ive got an inverter but not fitted yet and a fan heater. Thanks for your msg, its really helpfully!!! Don't want to pay £500 to get the heat exchangers fixed this year for the 3 or 4 times i will use the van in the cold this winter.
It will run it - I run angle grinders, 900w microwave, drills etc. from mine. You just have to be aware of what power you are sucking from your alternator/battery/ies.

I think that you have missed the sensible advice. What you are proposing is a waste of your hard earned cash!
I already have the equipment so it wont cost anything. I will replace the exchangers eventually. But after completely replacing and upgrading the brakes and a reconditioned engine with lots of extras the bank is empty for this year.
