I've managed to borrow a good set, its not that urgent, but thanks. :D

What does perplex me is why 4 different sets show up on GSF for an 85 1.9 WBX...... :shock:

And no I'm not a trader, that was a mod that graded me as such. I sell the roller DVD but actually make no money from them whatsoever.

That's an easy one - they're clucking fueless.

Well whoever made up their main catalogue certainly. I can't say my local counter staff are bad as they're not and often over-enthusiastic about v-dubs. I'll say one thing though, last year I slated their new online shop on here and despite the fact they went to great lengths to defend it via email. one year later it was scrapped and a new one built. It still doesn't recognise my reg number though - Euro Car Parts does - kinda. :D

Their best bet would be to move all their T25 stuff over to their VEEWEE extension - make like a lot easier.

Brickwerks are good, Ive ordered lots of stuff from them , but their postage is very high , £5 to send a 2 inch gasket costing £1.20 ? an envelope and first class stamp would cost 80 pence.( I used an cornflake packet and a smear of sealant )
And I have had issues with poor communications about out of stock shock absorbers ( sent direct from Bilstein )

I have a mate who owns a motor factors, its sad to see the decline over the last 25 years, I remember queuing out the door on a Saturday for parts. I always use him when I can, but a huge europarts has just opened up on the industrial estate so i fear it may be the last nail in the coffin for him....

As Covkid said, sometimes you need the part that day, how many times have you stripped down a vehicle to discover that you need something that you hadn't planned for ? ! :roll:

He used to have all the spark plug leads hanging up in lengths , many a time I would choose the length I wanted so as to route the lead the way I wanted to. Now he just has them in a set, and a number in a book :(

Sadly not, thats up to 82 which will be the Aircooled set, basically a longer Beetle set.

OK, update for anyone else who has to get 1.9 DG ignition leads from GSF. It appears that of the four they list, only ONE set fits (the first set in their list) but only because all four leads are long (same length for all four) but they're not pop-on leads either so you also have to fit a Bay dizzy cap (fiver). Beats me, but its a fact. Whoever decided those four sets of leads fit a DG must have had a hangover. Took FOUR journeys to resolve and would have been three had they not SOLD the last set of leads they'd ordered in for me! :shock:

We replaced V's leads recently, I can ask my Dad where he got them from, I suspect it wasn't GSF but a local Coventry supplier.

I know this doesn't help, but I had the same with Andrew page. Leads too short yet supposed to fit the 1.9dg I then had. I then got some more from gsf which just fit if you stretched them to within an inch of their life. drove me nuts as everywhere i went they were the same. I had some made up in the end from a local guy and then jk got them in :ok

Is the way of the world now... maybe a few shop staff who took more than just a passing interest in their trade too?

Ayup Ralf
Don't suppose you remember my two separate posts, one about a 2 years ago and then again a few months back....EXACTLY the same issue as you have just had.
Only difference being Shaun at GSF Nottingham trawled through every lead set he had and the best they could do was 3 HT leads (so I ended up using one of my old ones) and a King lead that was twice as long as it needed to be......that was the first post.

The second only a few months ago was yet another lead (one of the new ones) breaking down again.....I gave up on so called 'OEM replacement sets' and ended up making up my own from QUALITY double insulated Lucas Hypalon HT lead and fitted RED (you can also get black) NGK straight spark plug caps.
You can really feel the difference in the quality of the HT lead and the NGK spark plug caps don't have the rubbish METAL shroud around them, which is the MAIN reason the original leads start breaking down in the first place.

As a side note* to anyone suspecting a lead is breaking down...it is perfectly acceptable and was VW service policy, to remove the metal shrouds which often cures the problems without the need for lead replacement. The metal shrouds only act as extra interference suppression and do not effect actual ignition performance.

For anyone thinking about doing the same as I did here are the links to the supplier I got my stuff from:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7mm-HT-Igniti ... 4ab0b2479f" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-NGK-Resist ... 3374f7d1f4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unfortunately I couldn't find new ends so re-used the ones from the old leads...I soldered and crimped for the best connection.

Gone are the days when we used to cut HT leads to length and make your own harness. OK so they are more reliable now but you could have them as long as you like. Just a screw in connection for the Dizzy cap and the plug caps.

Things like water pumps are unrepareable whereas you could get the parts back then. I refurbished mini CV joints by using 9/16" ball bearings. Worked a treat.

I had the same on an 8 valve cavalier. They used Bosch, Lucas and other suppliers for the same car. Almost everything had to be identified by chassis number. That was a common car. The Volvo was much much worse.

I expect that they changed spec mid production.
