Ayup Ralf
Don't suppose you remember my two separate posts, one about a 2 years ago and then again a few months back....EXACTLY the same issue as you have just had.
Only difference being Shaun at GSF Nottingham trawled through every lead set he had and the best they could do was 3 HT leads (so I ended up using one of my old ones) and a King lead that was twice as long as it needed to be......that was the first post.
The second only a few months ago was yet another lead (one of the new ones) breaking down again.....I gave up on so called 'OEM replacement sets' and ended up making up my own from QUALITY double insulated Lucas Hypalon HT lead and fitted RED (you can also get black) NGK straight spark plug caps.
You can really feel the difference in the quality of the HT lead and the NGK spark plug caps don't have the rubbish METAL shroud around them, which is the MAIN reason the original leads start breaking down in the first place.
As a side note* to anyone suspecting a lead is breaking down...it is perfectly acceptable and was VW service policy, to remove the metal shrouds which often cures the problems without the need for lead replacement. The metal shrouds only act as extra interference suppression and do not effect actual ignition performance.
For anyone thinking about doing the same as I did here are the links to the supplier I got my stuff from:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7mm-HT-Igniti ... 4ab0b2479f" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-NGK-Resist ... 3374f7d1f4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Unfortunately I couldn't find new ends so re-used the ones from the old leads...I soldered and crimped for the best connection.
