The Extra cost was for a long list of parts that were needed. They said they had it all running sat and it was done. I was expecting it delivered mon, then wed, then thursday. Thursday they phoned to say it needed a new alternator and that would be an extra £50 fitted. Sounded dodgy to me so i told them to leave it as is. Did a google search and found several horror stories on Volks zone. Now Fri, no van. They never call me, i have to keep chasing it up. All paid for too.

I stand to be corrected, but I believe Steve at Gasure uses Elite engines and he is well known on here for knowing his stuff. I believe the well respected Campershack use them as well.

I do know of one person in the east Midlands that had an issue with an Elite engine, but in that case Elite came out with a flat bed lorry, took the van away, fitted another engine and delivered it back within a couple of days. I have not had the final chapter though, so cannot say more at this time. The person involved will know doubt post his findings when the final chapter is written.

I have heard some good things about them but I was just commenting from my own experience, not wishing to slag any one off. I do find on volks zone though a lot of them are on there to just moan and nothing more.

Well hopefully when i get it back, i will give a honest review of the work. Even with the extra parts it was still cheap. I have not written them off yet.

Aye, it is true of forums that folks post when there is a problem, but rarely post if there is no problem. This was pointed out when I first joined 80-90 about 10 years ago, before I bought our T25, I asked why the forum was so full of posts about folk having problems with their T25s and it was pointed out that folk who don't have a problem don't write in to say "I have no problems"

Just noticed this thread.

I believe they (Elite) will only fit an engine when everything else is good (well you would wouldn't you ?) I don't see what would cost £700 extra on a CT engine unless the tinware was shot ? and possibly other jobs (clutch, gearbox seals, CV joints, starter) needed doing. As John said before full disclosure of facts is needed before we can really comment. I don't frequent Vzi and from what I can gather I won't be doing either any time soon.

As for Elite's engines all I can say is that our's is on 70,000+ miles and nothing to report as yet and when I do need a replacement unit it will be one of theirs.

Personally i had a veey poor experience with them ending in a huge engine fire. You do tend to get what you pay for.

I have a recent 1.9DG engine from Elite and she's running sweet - now due for her first service. I thought it best to replace most ancillaries as well as I didn't want anything to fail and damage the engine, plus it meant I knew where I stood with everything. The only thing different was that my mate fitted the engine.

One thing I would suggest is that you get the mixture/timing checked on the carb from a local tuning company - I had this done and only cost me £20.

I have put up a post re the engine replacement in the 'what did you do to you T25 today'.

Hope it all goes well & keep us updated.

As with most transactions.....there is one golden rule which should never be breached......unless you want to open wide the doors to risk and buggery.

It is.....keep your money in the bank...or your pocket until you are happy with the goods.

I apply this in the local chip shop now.....show me the fish and chips....and i will give you the 3.50.

VAN IS BACK! Better late than never, took it for a quick drive and its quieter, smoother and seems to drive lovely. New lights are much better too, can acutely see where I'm going now. I will let you know in a couple of weeks if I'm still smiling.
