K - looked on a gas suppliers website http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you can buy 10cm h.t. Leads for £1.50 and the electrodes for a similar amount. So as suspected £46 is pretty top end. I will check out a local plumbers place I guess

If mice have had a go its probably beyond economical repair.Would look out for another on eBay probably save you time and money.As for metal plate it's attached to floor to protect pilot light from setting fire to floor..
