So, will this jx metal flange fit on the the afn block I have. How easy a job is this and I take it ill need to perhaps drain the coolant from an operation like this.

The single pin sensor would certainly work with the one wire I have. And yes the other two sensors were attached on the inlet (?) to the head? Seated opposite each other. What do they sense exactly and what colour wires are they as I can't tell from above.

Does this operate the fan at all, or is this a completely separate one on the rad. The engine shouldn't over heat without this sender but obviously if it does I wouldn't be able to tell.

Just let the coolant spill out.(Not on the lawn though!) No need to drain it all, I would just top up with neat antifreeze as I doubt that the previous owner has kept the concentration up to 50%. (Unless you have an antifreeze hydrometer to hand to check). Just rinse down the engine after it has spilt otherwise you will wonder where the strange smell is coming from.
It is a direct replacement - the plastic flange is a modern equivalent and a retrograde step as regards durability on the part of VW! Easy enough - two nuts and two hose clips to remove/replace it.

The other sensors are for the jx water pump and the glow plug relay. ....
white/blue temperature sender for glow plugs
brown/red feed to temperature sensor for the auxiliary pump

The radiator fan has its own switch on the radiator.

Brilliant, thanks. I've ordered those parts so hopefully they'll arrive either tomorrow or Wednesday so that I can fit them before I go on holiday on Friday evening.

I also think so of the wires weren't connected to the right senders, so I should be able to fit them all up correctly. Hurrah!!

Slowly but surly I'm getting to grips with this and learning what is going on in my engine. Confusing when it's not the original and teamed my lack of mechanical knowledge.

Hopefully ill be able to update this with the good news that it all fitted great and my gauge is reading properly.
