Why are they dangerous - you run a petrol engine that has far more scope for danger with high fuel delivery rates and scope for leaks. Another person that speaks through his rear end! (Or has he a Propex that he is trying to get rid of.

It runs for 8-9 hrs constant each night over the weekends.

It's no more dangerous than an oil filled radiator.

Just an opinion based upon what he's heard I guess, He wasn't trying to sell me anything.

If I was to connect the pump to 12V to test it, what would I be likely to see going on. I guess this is only pumping a small amount of fuel.

Oh and I contacted jjjackson, He's keeping the ECU as a backup. Which given the apparent rarity of these seems sensible.

Pump doesn't work on a 12v supply. It gets pulses from the ecu.

12v pulses.

Yes much the same as an injector

If you did connect it all you would hear is a click..just one

So the webasto isn't on it's 4kw full chat long
Once the thermostat setting is got right the heater cycles down to an almost silent hum. (1.6kw)
So as heat leaves through various routes.. It's gently replaced.
No on off like propex.

Why would you leave it on for that lenght of time kev..

Because there are 12 months in the year and believe it or not in the winter it gets cold! You try camping in -10 and you will find that you need heat otherwise you will look like the Michelin man!

So kev sleeps in the van every weekend lucky him....

We've found that having two people in the van interior tends to generate enough heat for pretty much any above-freezing ambients, even with the roof vent opened up whilst cooking to let the steam out, with the Eber only really being needed AT MOST for an hour or two in the evening, and a quick blast in the morning - even in heavy snow. I guess we probably used it less than ten times through the winter we were away - OK, we did chase the weather a bit, but the first snow we hit was October, last the end of May.

But, I s'pose, the big difference is double-glazed windows. There's certainly a VERY noticable difference inside if we haven't put the external silvers on the cab windows, and you can feel a cold front down towards the tailgate (which is only single-glazed on ours). I wonder if there's a way to put secondary glazing in...?

I personally can't sleep with heat on - window /vent open in -10 temps, same at home with no heating in the bedroom and window open 365 days of the year. But I don't ridicule those that do need it .....
