Thanks for all the replies. The new filter is the correct one I think (I compared it very carefully with old one) and it has been filled to the brim, the battery is massive and brand new and fully charged so I was able to turn it over a lot with no success (after two days playing it is now getting flat so is at home charging) There is no sign of the pump actually moving any diesel, so I suspect air locks in all of the injectors.

My plan for saturday is to run through the relay check list and find out why that is not working, if I cant fix it then use a jump lead to "hot wire" them, but this will be after cracking off the injector pipes one and at time and ensuring they dont have air in them and fuel is actually getting to the pump...hopefully with this done I may get it to work.

At the moment its not running at all - safe to say this is now stressing me out!

weldore - I may call that plan b.) its been stood for 2 years, the idea of being towed at 30mph with untested brakes may make this solution a touch to exciting!

That would be my plan a and then if still no joy look for other things.you don't need to do 30mph... just a constant speed the tow vehicle is happy with

UPDATE: Re: Only fires a little

Post by barneyrubble »

Well spent Saturday trying to bleed etc all on the starter motor but with no progress, no matter what I attempted I just could get get the pump to pickup fuel (at the time a clear fuel line so I could see it not happening). So I fitted an inline bulb primer into the feed fuel line, once I had done this I could pump fuel up the pump, it took quite a lot of pumping so I am sure the pump had lost its prime.

Next day (with the battery charged!), one turn of the key and it fired and settled into a very happy idle, total result. Even managed a little drive.

>phew< thanks for all the advice.

Congratulations, so the old inline bulb primer trick worked its magic once again.

Don't forget if your van has been stood for two years the brake fluid should be changed too, if you haven't already done so.

The difference between Gas & liquid..Gas is compressible liquid is not......like having a tow rope made of bungy, it stretches instead of pulling.
