This is twoddle...those bolts are not an issue unless they weren't tighten up properly to start with...and doweling the crank is bodgery.

AAZ maybe, not TDI.
Unless TDI has been retro-bodged with a AAZ crank, but then it wouldn't have the trigger ring for the engine speed sensor.
