Or do it the 2CV way. A friend of mine bought one with a box of spares in the back. I remarked that it seemed a good deal considering the spares that had been thrown in with it.

"Spares?? No, they're all the bits that have fallen off it since I've had it" he said.

That service schedule might be ok for a new vehicle but its not sensible for a 25-30 year old vehicle with some pattern parts and some very old VW parts hauling its max payload 7 days a week 52 weeks a year like my old bus does

Bigherb...where did you get that service schedule from/ as it differs significantly from what i remember.

for starters where's the 'interim' schedule? (Oil & filter change, lights and general check) @ 6,000 miles.
Also our VW service sheets came on a roll and were in miles not KM
Plus....no mention of tappet adjustment on diesels?
And refilling CV joints with grease on every main service..What the blithering heck! is all that about!

Whilst most of it sounds about right (if you make the corrections to 12,000 main service intervals with an interim at 6K.) there are definately some ommisions that I know existed....back in the 80's
Compression checks is another....

From the Transporter Maintenance manual or available on elsa and probably on erwin.
Yes the numbers refer to the pages.
