Indoors (Presuming that the van isn't being slept in but is being used as a daily drive).

I use propane. No farting around as the timer turns the propex on and the van is toast when i go out.

Re: Why does anyone use Butane ?
no reason on this planet for using butane especially the expensive 907's cept size/space, but easy enough to fit the dumpy propane etc, me i fitted this to run it all with facility to hook a bottle to it if i run out

Re: Why does anyone use Butane ?
I used butane originally as my autosleeper was supplied with a 907 Camping Gaz cylinder and a Calor dumpy wouldn't go through the locker door. Having been caught out a couple of times with frozen gas bottles I decided to modify my gas locker so I could fit a 3.9kg Calor propane cylinder. The difference in price between a Gaz 907 and a calor propane cylinder is quite dramatic so the change was also a bonus. The difference in cost between Calor propane and Butane is pretty small so not an option when convenience and warmth are considered.
A 4.5kg Butane cylinder refill costs £15.99 and gives you 214,625 BThU's (13,422.45 BThU per £)
A 3.9kg Propane cylinder refill cost £15.49 and gives you 185,355. BThU's (11,966.14 BThU per £)

Same as above but I didn't modify the locker I use the 907 cylinder for day trips but fitted a quick release coupling so I can poke the hose out the vent hole under the van and connect to a Calor cylinder for longer/colder trips.

Re: Why does anyone use Butane ?
They do indeed. when i installed my tank i fitted a line out to the rear with a 1/4 t v/v all upstream of the hp side. we carruy a 907
for running a sepperate burner away from the van a bit and this has the double use of feeding all the onboard stuff if i was dumb enough to let it run dry

what, a hole in the floor?lloydy wrote:You'll be happy to know Bren, that all westy's come with that abilty

No it means I can easily get an old propane bottle and regulator off ebay and run everything in winter without chopping my furniture about (which is what stopped me swapping ages ago).....simple solutions are often the best

If the LPG thing ever happens I'll kill several birds with one stone but this is perfect until then

I've only had problems with the butane on a couple of occassions anyway, it's hardly been an everyday occurance but them 907's ain't cheap

hmmm great idea indeed..also means you can use a larger bottle and save a bit of money and swapping.

Re: Why does anyone use Butane ?
If anybody needs the couplings these are the ones I used. It was actually more cost effective to buy two complete couplings (keeping one as a spare) than to buy one coupling and an extra male nozzle.

Have you ever driven off with it still attached?
