Well went to see the beast today to see what was happening ,they have managed to get the near side rear arch on and looks good, but after taking back all the filler they have found that most of the fridge panel needs replacing,so I was wondering if anybody knows where I can get a replacement.

I can only find the lower panel with the seal but I need it all the way up to the swage line .

I keep on digging and finding more rust lol.

Post by nutbox »

Well I thought I would do an update on what I have been upto with "Wicket" the rust bucket.
It has been a slow progress I have got the van back from my mates a few months ago and he has done the big bits of welding which was hard enough to get him to do ,so I am left with stuff he didn't do and the more I dig the more I find.

Anyway as you can see he has replaced both rear arch panels the fridge panel and the cill at the bottom and he replaced the n/s foot step.

As for what is left well there is both side of the cab floor need patching .

Also the o/s foot step needs patching or replacing.

Both the rear corners need surgery .

And the trays behind them need replacing.
Image

And the o/s seat belt anchor need repairing

And there is some rust under the roof

Anyway writing it all down here makes me think, hhhhhheeeeeeeeelllllllllllppppppppp :rofl ,so much bloody work to do and a big learning curve for me because I have got to hone my welding skills which ain't the greatest .

Anyway the thing I have done so far are,
I have patched up the n/s cab floor it ain't pretty but should do.

As you can see I think I need more practice,I was having trouble with my mig torch and it keep on leaking gas so I have upgraded it to a euro torch hoping it will help?

I have also started to dig in to the o/s rear corner,I have brought the 2 repair panels and the fillet bit.
Image

I have cut out the rust on the panels and think I need to replace the tray inside to save patching it and make it easier to repair a hole in the rear panel.
Image

As you can see from the following pictures that the rear panel had been patched over by the original owner and they didn't even cut out the rust  .makes you wonder don't it.

I am going to order both new trays and I am bidding on a full length panel for the n/s rear corner because it is going to need cutting high the usual to get the lower swage line back in and I can fabricate one.

Anyway this has definitely become more work than I thought it would be.

Awesome thread Nutbox.
I have just bought pretty much an identical van, condition and looks. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread. :)

As for the internal parts of the seams I have seam sealed them so can't show you much of that I am afraid .

I just need to get the rear corners do then I can seam seal the seams.
