1.9DG engine in my hi top....had 26 mpg on petrol, on a 55 - 60mph motorway run of approx 150 miles. Very pleased with that, but really drove it carefully to achieve that.

I ave found and bought a rather nice pop top, 2.1 5 speed, as far as mileage is concerned I'm only likely to do 2000 ish miles per year, but I will be checking out the LPG conversions.

I don't want a small diesel car, I have no use for a car, I have 3 trucks though, and a very frugal motorbike

Enjoy! I reckon a minimum of 4 years to recoup the cost of an LPG conversion then...but of course if you get the bug and start doing more miles....anyway let's have a look at her, post up some pics!

We and a load of other folks we know found that we just ended up doing loads more trips, holidays, shows and club camping back when the fuel was 1/2 price. Using our Bus as a daily driver it paid for itself on 16 fill-ups (@46p/ltr as against around £1/ltr for petrol at the time) and I filled up 5 times a month so it was a no-brainer.

As for adding actual value I agree with Lee that it makes the van more appealing but not neccesarily worth more, after all you convert it to make it cheaper for yourself and if you're not going to use it then you only have the much quieter/smoother part as an immediate pay back.

Although don't underestimate how nice this is! It really does seem to make quite a difference to the smoothness of these motors...

Running on LPG - Yes without even thinking about it.

I have a 1.9 petrol Autosleeper high top and average 23-25 mpg. It is a 5-speed right enough but I would really need to be sitting at 75mph to reduce mpg to below 20. The van sits nice around 65mph steady.

Yeah, that's right. We made it all up for a laugh cos we've only had these things for 5 minutes

Just offering advice by stating what my own van does. No need to discount my comments, everyone seems to be basing their comments on their own experience as was I. It's not difficult to work out mpg on different journeys at different speeds. My comments still stand.

From my experience a 1.9 DG would achieve 17 - 23 mpg, that's 17 mpg around town (particularly in winter on auto choke) and 23 mpg on a run.

My old 1.9DG would average about 18mpg. If I'd kept it I would definitely have lpg'd after the money it cost in fuel to get to the dordonge and back! But I went the stinky oily route instead.

I have a 1.9DG tin top, knocking about town I get 22, on run average 27 fully loaded, but just got back from a trip through Northumberland, east Scotland and the Lakes and got 30, covered about 550 miles, I run her at 60 on the motorway I found she is happy at that speed anything above she does not like, anyway whats the rush?

LPG is now more than half price again Ian

I managed 27.8 on a recent run to the new forest loaded up with 4 of us keeping it at no more than 50 - this was with a recon engine running in, new ancillaries and I'm running a Weber carb. I've just had the mixture/timing adjusted so may now run slightly better.

Looking back at my stats- best tank 26.22, worst tank 22.3 average 24.13.
Not many short trips, I keep speed down to 65 mpg indicated.
30 may be possible on a long slowish run, get behind a big truck!
