Bloke up norf, who works wiv the guys who fitted out the van. Top bloke, any upholsterer worth his or her salt should be able to knock out somat similar.

I thing vinyl looks great but I wouldn't fancy it in European heat

Hi all

Initially the Camel was just going to soldier on with the original interior which , to be frank was a bit of a mess. Then I put my hand into the overhead storage and found that there were about 10 extremely long screws that poked through. So I took it out, the carpet fell off the roof and so it started. I next wanted to get the door cards (horrible colour) out as the rear seatbelts were only long enough for a four year old to use them. I had thoughs on lowering the top fixing to give more length. So the bed had to come out.... The bed was then deemed filthy by the missus so it needed to be recovered.

Now we get to the real problem. What colour? What material? Anyway the exact same discussion ensued re vinyl or fabric. It went on for about three weeks while I wired in an auxilary battery, second fuse box and removed even more overlong wood screws from all over the bus.

Anyway we ended up in ABAKAN yesterday and stumbled on an nice brushed check material we both liked, orange and black with a mustard thread through it. ( the outside is Sandglow so it sort of suited) Got it home and the black headlining had arrived so it's coming together. Still harbouring thoughs on vinyl but to be honest, for £18 I got enough of this check stuff to do the rear body cards the bed and probably the curtains and blinds ( This might be a bit of overkill but we can always call a halt before it looks ridiculous. Plans now afoot to keep the basic kitchen carcass and make new doors with rounded corners and do the carcass in pale orange and the doors in carbon fiber black or visa versa, but that might be too modern.

We'v just bought some test vinyl from eBay and going to have a stab at making our own covers.

It's 99p a meter but it's grey, but who cares.

If its a mess up its a cheap set of temp covers.

I how hard can it be, and it can't look ain't worse than the 80s ones we have now.

99p! it doesn't really matter about the colour then. Like you say if it's a rubbish job what the hell.

How hard can it be? less than 30 minutes with a staple gun no sewing.

How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

Want to go for something similar myself but have had a pretty chunky quote.

Have a look at kevtherevs vanseats, there done in vinyl and it looks great

I'm still undecided on this.

I really want to go with vinyl, but to get it done properly I'm being quoted around £450 (inc VAT). Does that sound about right to you lot?

Do I bother spending that much, or do we attempt to recover our (slightly ill fitting) foam with material for much less money.

Don't know whether to skimp here, or whether to take the plunge and just pay for it to be done properly.

Are you planning on ever going anywhere hot and sunny? Vinyl that's been sat in the sun is PAINFUL.

Devon and Cornwall will be about as tropical as it gets.

I much prefer the look of vinyl, but £450 is quite a chunk of money. I guess I need some opinion as to whether that's the going rate for a good job (including foam) or whether its a rip off.

I think that is a fair price. How many colours are you having? piping? fluting? The foam is £80-£100 if it is any good.

The £450 quoted is for fluted with piping, haven't discussed colours yet.
