Cable route from front to engine bay ?

Thanks for your suggestions folks.

Is it worth replacing the bush first to see if that is the problem as it is inexpensive ?
Also, is there any way I can get the field windings checked on the starter motor to see if that is the cause of the problems. I would need to know what the good values are though.

Bushes certainly have been known to cause lazy / slow spinning of the starter. (mine did, a few years ago)

Bush = £1.20 as per link in previous posting above.

To fit it you will need eyes on the ends of your fingers and some vallium. (real fitting instructions on the Brickwerks page in the link and also in our "wiki")

Can't help with starter winding specs, sorry.

Don't ever test a starter off the van, as off the van the shaft is only supported at one end !

Dug in to Wiki and it looks as though the answers are there for checking resistance of windings, and two bushes ordered today.

Help much appreciated.

Tips =
Read up on the various bush removal techniques before you start.
Don't forget to soak bush in oil overnight.
Then make sure you are in a good mood and comfortable (i.e. not cold and raining) before you start.
Have a small torch to hand, or MUCH BETTER a small 12V bulb on the end of a length of wire.
If you get frustrated, STOP and leave it for a while, go get a cup of tea, often when you have relaxed and go back, it all of a sudden seems easier.

Disconnect battery before you start !
