Just Kamper suncanopy now tested, baldiebird was quite right. It is a good shelter from the sun but struggles in anything more then a gental breeze. Hard to put up well. A little bit more attention to design features could have made this so much better and more rigid.

Secondhand fiamma caravan store awning in 1.9, 2.2 or bigger. Much better quality, for for purpose about £100- ish second hand and worth it. I've tried it both ways.

Someone suggested a Coleman Tent awning which has worked well for us and was just £25 then but seems to be about £33 now:
