Yea thats been up for quite a while; just got relisted I think. Prob is its a converted panel van. Ideally I want a genuine westy if I'm going to shell out that much cash.

Could those with genuine Westfalias comment on the subtle nuances I'd be missing out on by getting a converted panel van like the two that have been linked on this thread? Not having even stepped foot in a westy before, I'm not even sure what to look out for when eventually viewing anything.

I think if you examined the pics of this van you would see quite clearly that it is not a converted panel van. I think you should look at the pics again and re evaluate. That is one heck of a van - lousy colour, silly front seats, stickers in the wrong place and a stupid bull bar - but I doubt if there is a better bodied camper out there for sale at the moment. If you do get a genuine Westy for similar money, will the body be as good as that one ?
If I was in the market for a van full of plywood I'd be looking at that one.

I'll have a closer look later.
But just a thought, and I am only being devil's advocate, but if the stickers etc are in the wrong place, how many of the more important bits are in the wrong place? If this guy knows westys (and to do a good conversion I'd imagine you'd have to), wouldnt he have put the correct decals in the correct place?
To know for sure one would have to go and look at it. Put then that leads me to my prev question. I need help knowing the nuances of a genuine so as to compare to this and other similar ones.

Might want to reconsider a good few poptop owners have expressed how much better a hightop would meet their needs in terms of storage space etc etc. Go to any show and look at the amount of hightops in the 2wd community there's a reason why there's so many, even Mike Ghia has come over to the high sidemrmule wrote:Prefer a pop top...

Re: Know of a tip top syncro westy for sale?
there`s westy look alike`s, westy replicas, and propper westys. propper westys especially 16" westys are few and far between. your likely to pay that sort of money for rough examples. replicas are also few and far between and take a lot of work to put together. look alikes could be as little westy as just the sticker.
if you`re set on a westy syncro then hold out and buy the best one you can. if you`re tempted to build one yourself "replica" then it is easier to convert a westy in to a syncro than the other way around.

Re: Know of a tip top syncro westy for sale?
only reason id sell mine is if i could get in to a high top westy having spent time in both with a family a hightop would suit us better i`m sure.
i`d still want a pop top for green lane weekends though.
sure you dont want to swap that hightop for my soul paul.
