Hi Lee, would they be a replica of our 16" shafts? so to all intents look original?

custom shafts approx £100 each. they are tubular and very strong which as Al can confirm may not be such a good idea ??????

On this note, can one of the engineers on here have a stab the following train of thought...

The custom shafts in question are tubular iirc. The discussion I had with Lee was along the lines of these shafts being far less prone to snapping. Presumably this might be partly due to the tube being able to twist a bit more than a solid one? Therefore providing a bit more 'cushion' to sudden shocking forces?

So is there any credence to the thought that a tubular and stronger shaft might also provide an amount of stress relief through flexibility that might mean they would not become detrimental to other bits of connected equipment?

The theory is sound enough but if you have a force that can snap a drive shaft eg a wheel spining with an oversized MT on it, where will that force end up ... it has to go somewhere and the next port of call is the front diff or gearbox ....

This is it, I considered the stronger shaft option, but I'd rather stick to replacing cheap standard shafts if and when they do break.

Certainly cheaper and less hassle than a gearbox.

cant see why not i`d need some serious interest and measurements to propose he made some they could be made to any length but i didnt query the external diameter.

i know Al was unlucky with what happened the weekend but i recon there must have been weaknesses already there after is big trip and previous escapades.

if you watch the vid my van is spinning all 4 wheels with 255 AT`s and a 4.86 fd and touch wood but i`ve not had a problem.

just make sure Aidan doesn`t see it as he thinks i`m very gentle with the box of cogs he made for me.

Seems to be a few people who are interested, some because they actually need a shaft i'm interested just so i can build up a front and rear shaft for a spare. So if people are up for some sort of group buy, i'd be in. But if it's just for me, i can wait.

was thinking more of a set of original CV's

Please could people express their interest in a group buy. As soon as I know numbers I can start approaching manufacturers such as Burley.

Or, if we take on board what Al is suggesting, should we all be opting for cheaper 14" shafts? I have a 16" on one side and a 14" on the other so, either way, I'm half way there!!

the thing with burleys shafts, is that they are for a porsche inner cv joint which is the same size as a 16" rear cv, so need different cv flanges on the front diff.
lee has said he knows someone who will make the shafts for us, and silverbullet can get it done too.
Personally i wouldnt want to change to 14" stuff, i never really hear of 16" shafts and cvj's failing, 14" ones seem to go regularly with abuse. all my shaft are present. But i wouldnt mind a spare front and rear, so i can build up a complete shaft.
So i would be interested, but it is price dependant as i am in no real need at the moment. we need someone with a front and rear shaft disasembled for measurements
