iirc Andy's research showed the golf3 TDi is the strongest 228mm clutch
VW VR6 clutch will be a hybrid beast as the VR6 was originally Audi and used a different spline input shaft I think
Sachs clutch generally has the nicest pedal feel and action of the T3 clutches imho and e, LUK is built to a price and is also the generic boxed clutches like QH and the other factors own brand stuff
it's not just the clutch though, slave cylinder pushrod and lever arm nipple condition and fork bush condition and lubrication is important for nice clutch operation, over 25 years worth of gearchanges may have caused some wear
There are some errors here...first of all the VR6 engine was not an Audi engine...there might of been some plans for it to go in an Audi but it never did...nor did the VR5 either..the engine itself has no spline...it's an engine! all the VR6 cars and vans except the sharan were FWD or 4WD and used the 02A or a derivative of that( no 6 speed fwd box in those days unless you bought parts off Gemini) or an auto.
There was an Audi V6 engine...but they were lame in comparison...and had two heads.
The clutch is same as a G60 basically...but the flywheel is different to a 4 pot...but only because it has more holes to bolt it to the crankshaft...same ring gear, same size, no need to make a hybrid of any sort...I don't know how deep Andy went into the strength of the clutches as such but as the clamp force can't be changed much without affecting the feel at the pedal I agree but there's also the Cush drive to consider and when I was deep into 16v g60 motors on golf rallyes it was generally considered that the VR6 syncro mk3 golf had the clutch least likely to rip its middle out and visually the vr6 clutch has more, heavier springing in the centre...I have a vr6 clutch in my rallye..syncro ..250+bhp and more grunt than a diesel and its been down Santa pod a good few times without ripping the middle out with 16v g60 trying to tear it apart...
I'm using a TDi Valeo clutch...it was nearly new on the engine I bought...there is no wear on linkage issues...all new bushes etc, fresh fluid, but its heavy...
