i have cut the last inch or so from the inner arch and will let a bit in here, have drilled the part of the arch i fitted earlier so i can spot through
welded, needs a run over with a disc to be neat enough
this shows it from the inside with decent penetration
reinforcing plate made and drilled for spots, this gives aded support to the corner where all the variouse panals join
This is with the bit added to the inner arch ,the yellow area will Not be welded till the wing skin has been fitted as i want to be able to move the inner about to line up with the flange i will be fitting to the wing, it is folded 90' and will be welded from underneath,a slit will also be cut to allow the rear 1/4 and wing to fit. the 3 spot visible are from the reinforcing plate on the reverse side
this is the rear side all welded, will run a disc over it then treat and seam seal etc
rear 1/4 let in for trial fit, this is the reason for the slot
black lines show the fold line to kink the panal out to met the 1/4 and match the vw original so it should look as built when done
marked the spots on the 1/4, not going to use this but need it for alignment reasons
Note the slight flanging, this is to be made on the replacement as its als a guide to sit the 1/4 agsinst , though in this case its more for accurate replication and i suppose ,cos I can

cut it out and get rid.
here you can see on the left,the X base, then a 4" bit that is scalloped and fitted up to the outer lower rear 1/4 (shown on the right of it)
you can if your pushed for time or whatever just add a flat plate over the lot,it will be strong enough but its not the correct way and would look like its been lashed on
here you will see that they are not actually welded to each other but sit a couple of mil apart and they both weld independantly to the base flange of the 1/4 panal, by doing it this way it looks original and if in years to come the lower rear 1/4 needs replacing then it will come of just like the original did. same if you have a bump and do a rear corner in, you can fit the new panal with out bodging
this is what we see from inside and this is the gap we need to close and fill
and this shows the new floor part abutting the lower 1/4,
so thats it for this aft, will loosely assemble th rear wing and hook it all together so i can confirm that the whole side will be a flowing line and then i can fix the rear corner in place there is only a few mm to play with so onwards ....
