Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
DVD is ready for despatch folks. Have PM'd those who asked for it, with the payment details. If anyone else wants the DVD (45mins long) then do PM me.
Would actually suit anyone considering rollering whether its a T25, T2, Beetle or any other vehicle even though the film shows a T25. Its £8 plus the jiffy, postage etc so call it £10 all in. We've added subtitles for the hard of hearing as well. Bit time consuming but we didn't want to exclude anyone.

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
I find mid to light colours are the most forgiving - black is probably the worst for that.

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
The third coat is on the bus now...
2nd coat rubbed down.

3rd coat...

For a comparison test I have taken a real close up pic with a 8 mega pixel camera of the door with my daughter in the reflection so I can see how much better it looks once it's cut and polished.

3 coats is going to have to do for now as the van is now needed, so it's going to be put back together over the next couple of days. Hopefully there is enough paint on it in the mean time, I think there is as under the 3 coats of rustoleum is the white paint and beneath that is the original army green. Will post up the polished comparision pic once it's done!

To Mozzer...
There is no RAL number to match Nato Green. It's close but not right. The best colour code to use is BS381C 285 (the BS bit is the European colour standard and the colour code is the 285).
This is the one I have used. Rustoleum suppliers can make it up using that code.
I would suggest that you use satin rather than matt as everyone I spoke to said that the matt will show marks like crazy. Every time someone touches it you will have a new greasy finger mark to remove (or try to, apparently they never go). I'm only part way through my repaint but I am very impressed with the satin finish. It's not that far from matt but doesn't show the marks so easily.

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Hi, I've got a "lovely" brown colour on my van - think it might be called Danbury? But just guessing. Does anyone know what the closest match is in the Combi-colour. I want to paint over the top of the old stuff - not sand down completely. Just really to sort out the rusty sections that are stripped, filled and vatcaned. And it would be best if I could leave a few panels un-touched. So a close match is best.
I notice a couple of browns on the colour sheet 8001 and 8011. But through the comp it is very difficult to tell shade - varies darker / lighter on each angle I look at the screen!!
Also the top cream I am considering 1015. Any help would be useful!
Cheers
Jo

Ask Rustoleum.co.uk for a paint chart.

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
That RAL number is not NATO Green according to everything I read on t'internet (which I always believe of course
). It's Bronze Green (whatever the heck that it).
I looked carefully into this when I chose my paint and the BS number I gave is considered the closest to the correct NATO Green which actually doesn't have a RAL or BS number. It is a unique colour designed just for, well, NATO I presume.
Anyway, they are all military looking colours so I think it all depends on a) if you are parked next to a military vehicle that IS the correct NATO colour and b) what your sense of colour is like.

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
I asked for a colour chart and they just emailed me it. So was wondering if anyone had any first hand knowledge.

For interests sake have a look at this...
http://www.dstan.mod.uk/standards/defst ... 000100.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is the MOD standards including markings and colours (see page 6 section 19.4). They suggest that Bronze green and NATO green are two different colours as they have different codes although they mention "deep bronze green" which might be different. It certainly uses the number 285 (like the BS number) in the official document for NATO green so my belief that it was a colour unique to NATO might be incorrect.
Anyway, whatever the correct code I was advised to steer well clear of any paint with IRR (Infra Red Reflective) in the name as it is apparently horrible stuff to work with. I'm sure it's useful on a tank but I didn't feel my van was likely to be in a battle situation so I used Rustoleum instead which is much nicer.
By the way, I have a printed RAL colour chart from Rustoleum and it jumps from RAL6029 to RAL6032 missing out 6031 so I can't have a look at it to compare - typical!
At the end of the day you pick a colour you like regardless of what it's called.

It was waiting for me when I got home. I'll hopefully have time to watch it after the football. Cheers to all those involved.
